Welcome to Ashkenas Construction.

Ashkenas Construction is a small-scale, Berkeley-based, residential design and remodeling company, building in the East Bay, Marin, and San Francisco for over 25 years. We specialize in fine carpentry, home remodeling, and beautiful redesigns. We do everything from hanging doors and windows to entirely new construction: second stories, kitchens, additions behind or below, bathrooms, and master bedrooms.

Due to our technique of unified design and execution—the same man who designs your new rooms will build them—we are always proud of our integration of the new work with the existing structure. Of course, we also work with architects, realtors, and insurance companies; but their expertise begins and ends on paper, while ours lives in glass and wood. You can't just plan and construct a wonderful addition on an isolated drafting board, it must redefine and enhance the rest of the home. Our work is truly seamless.

We concentrate on one project at a time. We give you our full and complete attention, while remaining competitive with other, less personal, mid to high-end contractors. That doesn't mean the jobs are always small—some have called for crews and sub-contractors of up to 12 people on the site. We have an extensive list of references which can be sent to you after an initial talk.

Recently, we have been employing more green technologies and techniques. This includes recycling as much of the old structure as possible, and installing solar photovoltaic panels where appropriate. To conserve energy in our additions, we can use insulated double-paned windows, setback thermostats, insulation made from recycled materials, and radiant heating floors.
